CAREER HIGHLIGHTS

A 20-year veteran of the Houston Astros organization, Rob Matwick was promoted to Senior Vice President on January 1, 2001. He oversees ballpark operations, engineering, maintenance, groundskeeping, customer service, and security, in addition to handling the schedule for the team and The Minute Maid College Classic.

After serving for 14 years as Director of Media Relations, Rob was named Vice President of communications on July 22, 1999, before being promoted to his current post.

During the Minute Maid Park construction process, Matwick worked with the architects and construction team on many critical aspects. He also served as chairman of the Public Information Task Force for the Minute Maid Park Traffic Management plan, a cooperative effort of nine different local, regional, and state agencies and interests.

During baseball’s annual Winter Meetings in December 2001, Rob received the Robert O. Fishel Award. This honor, named after the long-time baseball executive and former Public Relations Director of the New York Yankees, goes to the active, non-uniformed representative of Major League Baseball whose ethics, character, dedication, service, professionalism, and humanitarianism best represent the standards propounded by Robert O. Fishel.

Before joining the Astros in October of 1985, Rob was Sports Information Director at Wichita State University. He also had collegiate sports information experience at the University of South Carolina, was a sportswriter for The Aiken (SC) Standard newspaper, and was an account executive for a South Carolina-based advertising agency. He is a member of the Public Relations Society of America, the International Association of Assembly Managers, and the Stadium Managers Association.

A native of McKeesport, PA., Rob earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of South Carolina at Aiken and a Master of Mass Communications degree from the University of South Carolina in Columbia. He and his wife, Kelly, make their home in Manvel, Texas, and have one daughter, Mackenzie.
